    Finished doll measures 8” tall.

    General Tips & Techniques:

    * Be sure to keep yarn tension firm and consistent throughout your work.

    * At the end of each row, I have given the number of stitches you should have. This is just a guide. If you are off by 1 or 2 stitches, don’t worry about it. Amigurumi is very forgiving.

    * I chose Caron Simply Soft for this pattern. You may substitute any medium-weight worsted yarn. Bernat Satin or Red Heart Soft work well too.

    Magic Ring: Leaving a long tail, at least 12”, Ch. 4, join with sl st into first st. Work 10 sc into center ring and around tail, do not join. Pull tail to close the hole in the ring. Tie tail to working yarn.

    Abbreviations:

    ch chain

    hdc half double crochet

    sc single crochet

    sc2tog single crochet 2 stitches together

    sl st slip stitch st stitch

    Materials:

    Worsted weight yarn in 6 colors of your choice.

    Crochet hook size D3 (U.S.) 12mm

    12mm Craft eyes

    Polyfil or stuffing of your choice (available at most craft and department stores).

    Yarn needle.

    Ribbon and button trims.

    Instructions: Beginning at top of head:

    Row 1: Using head color, create Magic Ring as above, 10 st.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 30 st.

    Row 4: 1 sc in each sc around, 30 st.

    Row 5: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 40 st.

    Rows 6-10: 1 sc in each sc around, 40 st.

    Row 11: *1 sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, 30 st.

    Row 12: *1 sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, 22 st.

    Add facial features now. Eyes are positioned in row 8, 7 sc apart. Begin eyebrows 1 row up from eyes, sew stitch over one sc and up 3 rows, sew 2nd stitch over one and down 3 rows. Nose is positioned between eyes and down 3 rows. Smile is directly under the left eye, down 4 rows, down 2 rows and across 1 sc, and then across 2 sc.

    Row 13: *1 sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around, 14 st.

    Row 14: 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st.

    Row 15: Change to 1st shirt color. *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 18 st.

    Rows 16-20:  Add 2nd shirt color.Alternating 1st and 2nd shirt colors, 1 sc in each sc around, 18 st.

    Rows 21-23:  Change to shorts color.1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Bottom of Body:

    Row 1: Create Magic Ring as above, 10 st.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 3: *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Sew to bottom of body, leaving a 1” gap. Stuff head and body firmly. Sew up remaining 1” gap.

    Nose:

    Row 1: Using red and leaving a long tail, ch. 4. Join with sl st into first st. Work 7 sc into center ring and around tail, do not join. Pull tail to close the hole in the ring. Tie tail to working yarn. 7 st.

    Row 2: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 10 st.

    Rows 3-4: 1 sc in each sc around, 10 st.

    Row 5: Sc2tog around. Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Hat:

    Row 1: Using hat color, create Magic Ring as above, 10 st.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Rows 3-5: 1 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 6: 2 sc in each sc around, 40 st.

    Row 7: *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st and end, leaving a tail for sewing.

    Arms (make 2):

    Row 1: Ch. 6, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, 5 st. Ch. 1, turn.

    Rows 2-4: 1 sc in each sc across, 5 st. Ch. 1, turn.

    Row 5: 1 sc in each sc across. Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Fold arm in half and sew up the side to form a tube (arm) shape.

    Join white at one end of the tube (for hand shaping).

    Row 6: 1 sc in each sc or row around.

    Row 7: 2 sc in each sc around.

    Row 8-9: 1 sc in each sc around.

    Row 10: *1 sc in next sc, sc2tog*, repeat from * to * around.

    Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing the hole at the end of the hand closed. Do not stuff arms. They can be positioned in many ways if not stuffed.

    Legs of Shorts (make 2):

    Row 1: Ch. 14, join with sl st to form a ring.

    Row 2: 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st.

    Row 3: 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st.

    Row 4: 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st. Join with sl st and end, leaving a tail for sewing.

    Do not attach legs of shorts until after legs are attached.

    Legs (make 2):

    Row 1: Ch. 10, join with sl st to form a ring. 1 sc in each sc around, 10 st.

    Rows 2-7: 1 sc in each sc around, 10 st.

    Change to sock color.

    Row 8: 1 sc in each sc around, 10 st.

    Row 9: 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Feet (make 2):

    Row 1: Create Magic Ring as above, 10 st.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 3: *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* 3 times. 1 sc in each sc at end of round, 23 st.

    Row 4: *1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st* 3 times. *1 sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st* to end of round, 30 st.

    Rows 5-7: 1 sc in each sc around, 30 st.

    Join with sl st and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Bottom of feet (make 2):

    Row 1: Create Magic Ring as above, 10 st.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 3: *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* 3 times. 1 sc in each sc at end of round, 23 st.

    Row 4: *1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st* 3 times. *1 sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st* to end of round, 30 st.

    Sew each bottom to foot, leaving a 1” gap. Stuff foot firmly, and then sew up remaining 1” gap.

    Finishing: Legs: Sew legs to bottom front of body, making sure sock color is at the bottom. Stuff firmly. Using tail left on socks, sew feet to legs.

    Legs of shorts: Slide legs of shorts up the clown’s legs to his shorts. Using the tail left on the legs of the shorts, sew legs of shorts to shorts, spacing them 1 sc apart.

    Hair: Make two 1” to 2” pompoms. Sew one on each side of head, halfway down.

    Sew on hat, leaving a 1” gap for stuffing. Stuff hat to keep its shape. Sew remaining 1” gap closed. Add a ribbon around the hat.

    Sew two buttons to the front of the clown’s shirt.

    Add 1” pompoms to the clown’s shoes.

    Row 2: 2 sc in each sc around, 20 st.

    Row 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 30 st.

    Rows 4-7: 1 sc in each sc around, 30 st.

    Row 8: *1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 37 st.

    Rows 9-10: 1 sc in each sc around, 37 st.

    Row 11: *1 sc in next 3 sc, sc next 2 together*, repeat from * to * around, 30 st.

    Row 12: 1 sc in each sc around, 30 st. Attach safety eyes or embroider face now. Also add hair now if weaving it in the inside of the head. Chin and neck shaping:

    Row 13: 1 sc in next 12 sc, *sc next 2 together, 1 sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * to end of row, 26 st.

    Row 14: 1 sc in next 12 sc, *sc next 2 together, 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * to end of row, 22 st.

    Rows 15-16: 1 sc in each sc around, 22 st.

    Body shaping:

    Row 17: Change to black yarn. *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 29 st.

    Rows 18-21: 1 sc in each sc around, 29 st.

    Row 22: Change to brown yarn for pants. 1 sc in each sc around, 29 st.

    Rows 23-24: 1 sc in each sc around, 29 st. Leg shaping:

    Row 25: Skip next 14 st, 1 sc in next 15 st. One leg made, 15 st.

    Rows 26-27: Continuing around the leg you just made, 1 sc in each sc around, 15 st.

    Row 28: Boot shaping: Attach black yarn. 1 sc in next 5 sc, 1 hdc in next 5 sc, 1 sc in next 5 sc. Join and end, leaving a 12-inch tail for sewing.

    Row 29: Join brown yarn to other leg side somewhere in the back (doesn’t really matter where). Work 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st.

    Rows 30-31: 1 sc in each sc around, 14 st.

    Row 32: Boot shaping: Attach black yarn. 1 sc in next 5 sc, 1 hdc in next 5 sc, 1 sc in next 5 sc. Join and end, leaving a 12-inch tail for sewing.

    Bottom of feet (make 2):

    Row 1: With black yarn, create Magic Ring as above.

    Row 2: 1 sc in next 6 sc. Join and end, leaving a long tail for sewing.

    Arms (make 2):

    Row 1: With white, create Magic Ring as above.

    Row 2: *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, 13 st.

    Row 3: Join black yarn. 1 sc in each sc around, 13 st. Row 4: 1 sc in each sc around, 13 st. Join and end, leaving a tail for sewing.

    Finishing: Stuff head, body, and legs firmly with Polyfil or stuffing of your choice. Sew bottoms onto feet. Sew arms into position.

    Hair: Starting at the top of his head, insert 2 yarn hairs in each hole for 2 rows. This makes his hair kind of stringy and emo.

    Eyes: His eyes are placed in row 7, 3 spaces apart.
